Jadeja takes a sharp catch to remove Labuschagne

Australia raced to 59/1 after ten overs, but India hit back with the wicket of opposition captain Steve Smith, who nicked a square cut behind. Having denied Mitchell Marsh a century, Ravindra Jadeja took a stunning catch to dismiss Marnus Labuschagne before Mohammad Shami weaved his magic.

While it appeared as if Australia still had a smidgen of a chance to put up something respectable on the board at 174/6 after 30 overs due to the presence of Marcus Stoinis, who came in at 8, India nipped such notions in the bud early.

Stoinis, who was dropped by Shubman Gill first ball, was snared by the same fielder and once Jadeja got rid of Glenn Maxwell, the walls caved in on Australia. Siraj mopped up the tail as Australia were forced to settle for a below par total in the series opener.

Brief scores: Australia 188 in 35.4 overs (Mitchell Marsh 81; Mohammed Shami 3/17, Mohammed Siraj 3/29) vs India
