Australia lose 8/59 to fold for 188 at Wankhede

Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja were the star performers in the first innings of the opening ODI against Australia as the visitors were bowled out for just 188 on Friday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. While Jadeja provided the breakthrough after Mitchell Marsh came out firing on all cylinders, Shami swat aside the Australian middle order as they nosedived from 129/2 to 188 all out to hand India the advantage.

Australia raced to 59/1 after ten overs, but India hit back with the wicket of Steve Smith. Jadeja took a stunning catch to dismiss Marnus Labuschagne before Shami weaved his magic. Marcus Stoinis, who was put down by Shubman Gill first ball, was caught by Gill himself at first slip and once Jadeja got rid of Glenn Maxwell in tame fashion, the walls caved in on Australia. Siraj made short work of the tail as Australia were forced to settle for an underwhelming total.

Brief scores: Australia 188 in 35.4 overs (Mitchell Marsh 81; Mohammed Shami 3/17, Mohammed Siraj 3/29) vs India
