Hardik Pandya generates outswing to nick off Steve Smith

Mitchell Marsh put India under the pump by scoring 81 off just 65 deliveries in the opening ODI at Wankhede. His knock was laced with 10 fours and five maximums.

Marsh eventually fell prey to left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja who elicited a top edge off an attempted hoick over mid-off. The Australian innings had got off to a poor start with opener Travis Head dragging on a Mohammad Siraj in-decker to perish cheaply. Marsh took the onus upon himself and put the Indian bowlers to the sword with his counter-attacking strokeplay. He upped the ante even further after completing his half-century off 51 balls, but Jadeja denied the dasher a ton, much to the relief of the hosts, who’ve also managed to keep Steve Smith quiet.

Laid low by an ankle injury, Marsh underwent surgery after the home ODI series versus England in November last year. He missed the entire BBL 2022-23 as a consequence, although the all-rounder has made a dazzling return to national colors.
