White-ball captain Stephen Eskinazi joins Tom Helm in committing long-term future to Middlesex

Middlesex Cricket announced that white-ball Captain, Stephen Eskinazi, has signed a long-term extension to his contract with the Club, joining teammate Tom Helm in extending his stay at Middlesex until at least the end of the 2026 season.

Right-handed opening batter Eskinazi, 28, has been at Middlesex since the 2015 season, when he made his debut for the Club against Yorkshire at Lord’s in the County Championship. He has since made 73 red-ball appearances for the Club, hitting almost 4,000 runs in the four-day format.

In white-ball cricket Eskinazi has been prolific, scoring 1,355 runs in 29 List-A appearances at an average of over 54, and almost 2,000 runs in the T20 format of the game in 64 appearances, at an average of over 35. He has consistently been one of the leading run scorers in the Vitality Blast over the last three years.

He has hit sixteen centuries in his career to date for Middlesex and last summer broke into the England Lions side, hitting 79 on debut against South Africa in what has incredibly been his only appearance to date in England colours.

Most recently he was picked up by the Perth Scorchers to play in the Big Bash League when spending the winter overseas playing Grade cricket, and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands, playing a key role in helping the Scorchers win the tournament, hitting 214 runs in 9 matches, including two half-centuries.

On securing Eskinazi’s signature on another important long-term contract extension for the Club, Director of Cricket, Alan Coleman, said “To have secured Eski’s services for a further three years is huge for Middlesex. He continues to prove his quality both on and off the field and is one of the most consistent white-ball players in the country right now, with a huge future ahead of him.

“In white-ball cricket he leads from the front, by example, and is a model professional cricketer. He works hard at his game, always looks to push himself, and for the younger players in our side to not only play with him, but to be led by him in the white-ball format, is a really valuable asset for us.

“Having secured the services of Helmy for the next four years, and now Eski too, it’s hugely satisfying to see the senior players in the squad buying into our long-term vision to develop this group of players into a side that can challenge for honours in all formats.

“Having the likes of both Eski and Helmy around for the long haul allows us to really develop the squad we’ve got here, bringing through and developing our talented younger cricketers, knowing that we’ve also got the quality and experience in the group to support them.

“I’m very much looking forward to working with Eski over the next four years and to seeing him play a big role in us growing as a side.”

On committing his future to Middlesex, Eskinazi himself commented:

“It is a privilege to commit my future to this great club again.

“I believe we are on the precipice of something pretty special and with the current crop of players and support staff I really believe that our best is yet to come.

“We set about building the foundations last year for what this team can achieve and it’s time to continue to drive that forward.

“We have a responsibility as players to keep moving the club in the right direction on and off the field and I can’t wait to hopefully be a big part of that.”
