Shreyas Iyer doubtful for Australia ODIs

Shreyas Iyer is a doubtful starter for the ODI series against Australia. The spunky middle-order batter, who didn’t bat in India’s first innings at the Narendera Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, could miss out on the white-ball leg of the tour as he is down with acute back pain.

The chances of his participation in the Indian Premier League will be assessed after further tests are done. The Board of Control for Cricket in India said on Day 4 of the fourth and final Test that the medical team was monitoring Iyer.

“Shreyas Iyer complained of pain in his lower back following the third day’s play. He has gone for scans and the BCCI Medical Team is monitoring him,” the BCCI statement read.

Iyer has been troubled by his back pain earlier as well, with spasms keeping him out of the first Test against Australia in Nagpur and the previous ODI series against New Zealand.
