(Video) Chris Benjamin’s star continues to rise as Birmingham Phoenix go top of the table

Chris Benjamin continued to flourish in the Hundred as he hit 37 off 16 balls to take the Birmingham Phoenix past the Oval Invincibles’ impressive total of 172. Benjamin, the 22-year-old keeper-batsman, had only played one T20 in his professional career before the start of the Hundred, and his talent has been unearthed for all to see in the new competition.

The game was an authentic run-fest, a product more along the lines of the ECB’s initial wishes for the tournament. Jason Roy smashed 38 off 22 for the Invincibles, playing second fiddle to the incredible knock of Colin Ingram, who reached 81 not out off 43 deliveries. In reply, Will Smeed hit 45 and Moeen Ali 49 for the Phoenix, before the Hundred’s new star Benjamin took the home side over the line.
