Bracewell settles under top edge as New Zealand snap up nightwatchman

Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley made a quick start in the run-chase before the right-hander was knocked over late on Day 4 by Tim Southee, to leave England needing 210 runs to win on the final day of the second Test. The target of 265, and the laudable turnaround in the contest, was achieved courtesy Kane Williamson’s 26th Test hundred and vital half-centuries from Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell before Jack Leach’s fifer skittled the hosts for 483 in their second essay.

Resuming the final day on 48/1, England lost nightwatchman Ollie Robinson early, on a cheap score of 2 off 15 deliveries, as a top edge settled into Michael Bracewell’s palms at third slip. Robinson was rooted to his crease as he looked to pull it away, and the ball shot straight up upon the miscue, allowing New Zealand to take their first step today towards winning the second Test at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.
