Watch Ollie Pope’s fantastic catch at silly point

James Anderson and Jack Leach made further incisions to leave New Zealand six down at the end of the second session on Day 2 at the Basin Reserve in Wellington. Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell batted cautiously for the sixth-wicket stand, before the former fell at the stroke of Tea. New Zealand are in a spot of bother, trailing England by a mammoth 339 runs.

England got just the start the doctor ordered as they struck twice in the half an hour window before Lunch, with James Anderson claiming the big wickets of Devon Conway and Kane Williamson. The experienced campaigner struck for the third time in the innings early in the second session with a peach to Will Young – a length ball on off that shaped away a smidgen and took a faint nick through to Ben Foakes. Like England, New Zealand too were down to 21 for 3 and were desperate for a Brook-Root-like alliance to stage a comeback. However, wickets kept tumbling regularly.
