West Indies and Pakistan miss out again on valuable World Cup preparations

The third T20 International between the West Indies and Pakistan was rained off on Sunday, leaving only one fixture left in the orginal five-match series. Pakistan are 1-0 up after a game was lost to COVID-19.

Pakistan were victorious in that fixture by seven runs, with Mohammad Rizwan making 46 and the ever-wily Mohammad Hafeez sucking the life out of the West Indies batting line-up with the remarkable figures of 1-6 off his four overs. His ludicrous economy of 1.50 earned him the Player of the Match award. Both sides, however, have been starved of the chance to build on their performances.

The series represented an excellent opportunity for the two teams to hone their preparations for the T20 World Cup, which begins in October. Around the globe international outfits have had the chance in the past month to work out their best elevens, and the final T20 of this series will subsequently be vital for the opponents to gain a better understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses.
