The Hundred seems to be fulfilling one of its many promises in the unearthing of young talent, as 19-year-old Will Smeed took twenty runs off just four deliveries in a scintillating knock of 36 off 13 balls against the Trent Rockets on Sunday. Smeed’s Birmingham Phoenix went on to win the game by six wickets.
Many will of course argue that thanks to England’s age group set-ups and the T20 Blast Smeed was already considered something of a batting prodigy, but the Hundred has provided a more widely broadcasted and viewed competition to thrive in. More performances like this and Smeed will find himself becoming a household name in a matter of months.
