Issy Wong, the 19-year-old English fast bowler, has attracted an inspired fanbase not only for her talent and ambition – she wants to be the quickest ever to play women’s cricket – but also for her potentially trailblazing future, as she seeks to become the first player of Chinese descent to don the three lions.
During Sunday’s Hundred clash between Birmingham Phoenix and the Trent Rockets, however, Wong put on a show with the bat instead, hitting the often dominant Nat Sciver for two enormous sixes in two balls. It proved to be in vain, though, as the Rockets won by 11 runs.
