After Daryl Mitchell’s pyrotechnics had thrust New Zealand to an above par total, Michael Bracewell and Jacob Duffy put the visitors in pole position. In just the second over, Bracewell bowled a ripper that pitched on leg, gripped and then beat Ishan Kishan’s dead bat to hit top of off. Rahul Tripathi looked jittery at the crease, and soon edged Duffy to the wicketkeeper. To make matters worse, Shubman Gill miscued a pull to the fielder stationed at midwicket, with Mitchell Santner picking up his first scalp.
