India made light work of Sri Lanka in the inconsequential 3rd ODI in Thiruvananthapuram, winning by a mammoth 317 runs to take the series 3-0. Virat Kohli (166*) and Shubman Gill (116) powered India to 390 before Mohammed Siraj ripped apart the visitors’ top order. It resulted in Sri Lanka’s heaviest loss ever in ODI cricket, by a margin of 317 runs.
The margin of victory for India is best ever in ODI cricket in terms of runs. The record was with New Zealand, who bagged a 290 run win over Ireland in Aberdeen in 2008. India’s highest winning margin previously was 257 runs against Bermuda in Port of Spain in World Cup 2007.
