Overnight batters Simon Harmer and Marco Jansen played out 14.3 overs on Day 5 of the SCG Test. They didn’t get the scoreboard moving at a fair clip, but more importantly, ate into the overs left at Australia’s disposal. Travis Head eventually provided the breakthrough with Jansen’s wicket but that didn’t trigger a collapse. Instead, Maharaj joined Harmer to take South Africa’s resilience to another level, and while doing so he scored at a quick pace.
