The ECB were no doubt popping the corks at home as footage of actual kids seemingly having an actually good time at The Hundred emerged on screen. Dancing the evening away, the cameraman (no doubt with a metaphorical gun to his head) immediately swerved to capture them delighting in the home side Manchester Originals restricting Birmingham Phoenix to 87 all out.
The crowds at The Hundred have, to be fair, included plenty of young families who have appeared to be loving the atmosphere and cricket on show. This, rather than winning over the many cynics, was the tournament’s main target, and the work to attract newcomers seems to be bearing fruit.
