Ben Stokes, Brendon McCullum hail England’s ‘tactical’ triumph

Reflecting on the “perfect” series win in Pakistan, England captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum have praised the team for navigating the different challenges posed by the three Test venues very well. While the Rawalpindi track was a motorway, the ball spun in Multan and the pitch in Karachi dished up variable bounce.

“I’ve learned a lot in terms of the tactical side of playing in these conditions. That’s the best thing to come out of it for me…having to think about the game differently, trying out a few different things that might not have been seen before, and just assessing the conditions and having to be a bit out there. Everything we tried came off,” Stokes said after the clean sweep.

Stokes, who registered his ninth Test win as skipper this year, said that “releasing the fear of failure” seems to have worked like a charm the players, a sentiment that McCullum echoed.
