Plagued with injuries, India seek reinforcements ahead of England Tests

Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav will soon be hitting the UK shores to join the Indian team, with the national selectors and the BCCI approving the team management’s request for reinforcements for their high-profile series against England, according to Cricbuzz. This comes in the wake of injuries to Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar and Avesh Khan, all of whom have been ruled out in the lead up to the Tests.

Gill was sidelined immediately after the World Test Championship final last month due to a stress injury to his shins. He, in fact, has flown back home. Avesh and Washington sustained finger injuries while playing against the Indian team during a three-day warm-up game, which ended on Thursday. The injured duo is set to return home as well.

Cricbuzz has reported that the names of Suryakumar and Shaw were zeroed in by the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee following a discussion with head coach Ravi Shastri. A request for a third player, who was Jayant Yadav, according to The Indian Express, was also made but there is little clarity if another player will be jetted out to England.

It is uncertain how and when Suryakumar and Shaw will travel. Both are currently in Sri Lanka with the Shikhar Dhawan-led white-ball squad, and are presumed to be available for the T20 series that kicks off on Sunday, July 25, as per Cricbuzz. The report added that queries to the BCCI office-bearers didn’t elicit answers but logistical arrangements are afoot to transport the players to England.
