Zahid Mahmood concedes most runs in an innings on Test debut

Pakistan’s travails in the field eventually came to an end with the final ball of the 101st over as James Anderson miscued a sweep to short fine leg to give Zahid Mahmood, who proved expensive on debut, his fourth scalp. By then, however, the leg-spinner had surpassed Suraj Randiv to achieve the untoward feat for most runs conceded in an innings on Test debut. Mahmood gave away 235 of the 657 that England eventually posted, at an astonshing run-rate of 6.5, an innings laced with 87 fours and nine sixes.
