Gaikwad’s herculean feat powers Maharashtra into Vijay Hazare semis

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s imposing 220* helped Maharashtra bag a convincing 58-run win over Uttar Pradesh and pushed the side to the semifinals, where they will meet Assam. Gaikwad hammered 10 boundaries and 16 sixes, including seven sixes in the penultimate over of Maharashtra’s innings, bowled by left-arm spinner Shiva Singh.

Reduced to 154 for 7 in response, Aryan Juyal and Shivam Sharma came to Uttar Pradesh’s rescue with a 112-run stand for the eighth wicket. But the writing was already on the wall as Rajvardhan Hangargekar dismissed both the batters and returned a fifer to limit Uttar Pradesh to 272.
