Existing hip injury rules Mark Wood out of Rawalpindi Test

England quick Mark Wood has been ruled out of the opening Test against Pakistan following a hip injury he sustained during the T20 World Cup, head coach Brendon McCullum confirmed on Monday, November 28. The first of the three-match Test series is scheduled to be played in Rawalpindi from December 1.

Wood, who has 26 Test caps, has been playing for England across formats in recent years. The pacer hadn’t travelled with the team to UAE for the preparatory matches ahead of the series, but was expected to link up with the squad. The 32-year-old has been undergoing rehab and could be available for the second and third Test, set to be played in Multan and Karachi respectively.
