Maharashtra captain and opener Ruturaj Gaikwad thwacked seven sixes in an over – a first in List A cricket – against Uttar Pradesh in the quarter-final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Ahmedabad. In the penultimate over, delivered by left-arm spinner Shiva Singh, Gaikwad’s herculean feat catapulted the score from 272 for 5 to 315 for 5. The aggregate of 43 runs from the over also made it to the record books, equalling the combined effort of Brett Hampton and Joe Carter, off Willem Ludick, for Northern Districts against Central Districts in a Ford Trophy match in 2018.
