England’s senior team, without captain Ben Stokes, ended Day 1 of the warm-up match against the Lions on 501-7 after 79 overs, with Ollie Pope smacking a century. Zac Crawley and Will Jacks, however, couldn’t reach three figures, falling for 84 and 96 respectively. The majority of the batters had a day out, as the scoreline suggests, but Joe Root failed to get a good work-out as he was dismissed for nine by Sussex off-spinner Jack Carson.
