Mumbai Indians stalwart Kieron Pollard announces IPL retirement; appointed franchise’s batting coach

Kieron Pollard, who represented Mumbai Indians with great success in the Indian Premier League, has announced retirement from the league after the five-time champions released their most experienced campaigner to end a 13-year playing career that began in 2010. The Trinidadian big-hitting all-rounder, acquired by Mumbai Indians in a secret bidding in the IPL 2009 auction, said “Once an MI always an MI.”

The franchise said he will continue to be associated with the team as its batting coach and will turn up for the MI Emirates, the franchise’s subsidiary in the UAE league. In 71 IPL innings, Pollard scored 3412 runs with a top score of 87*. He also took 69 wickets for the franchise, and manned the hotspots remarkably well in the field.
