KL Rahul gives fitting audition for opener’s role in warm-up game

KL Rahul has plumped his case for an opening berth with a stylish half-century in the warm-up-up match between India and County Select XI at Durham. Assigned the wicket-keeping duties in the absence of regulars Rishabh Pant and Wriddhiman Saha, Rahul joined forces with Ravindra Jadeja to weather the storm as India recovered from 107/4. He scored at a fair clip, notching up fifty at a healthy strike rate of 68.

Opener Mayank Agarwal was cleaned up through the gate earlier without crossing double digits. With Shubman Gill out injured and Agarwal not at his technical best, Rahul could be given a crack at the top of the order alongside Rohit Sharma in the upcoming Tests versus hosts England. Just for the record, his last knock on English soil reaped a huge harvest of 149 runs.
