Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowls first no-ball in six years in international cricket, after 3093 deliveries

Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled his first no-ball in international cricket since 2015 in the ongoing second ODI between India and Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. His streak of perfection worth 3093 legitimate deliveries came to an end in his third over, with the foot going over the line by a full inch. The last occasion when he overstepped was against South Africa in Chennai six years ago.

Medium pacers are generally guilty of trespassing the crease, given the momentum acquired by a long run-up. So that Bhuvneshwar had kept the no-ball at bay for half-a-dozen years is no mean feat.

The experienced campaigner had a tough day at the office in the series opener, splurging 63 runs off his nine overs. Although death bowling is considered his strong suit, Bhuvneshwar was carted around the park by Chamika Karunaratne. His waning accuracy is a cause of concern for India as they look to shortlist the final squad for the T20 World Cup, scheduled to kick off in UAE from 17th October 2021.
