Mitchell Starc (1 for 42) and Josh Hazlewood (0 for 39) had poor outings with the ball but Marcus Stoinis’ fitness holding up for him to bowl his full quota of four overs will be a big plus for the home side. Stoinis struck on his very first ball in Canberra, taking out Alex Hales and mixed up his lengths and pace adeptly. He was still far from being at his best rhythm-wise as he got taken apart by Moeen (14 runs in his 3rd over) and he conceded 13 in his last. Stoinis managed to pick 3 wickets – including that of England’s premier batter Dawid Malan, who pulled the slow bouncer to deep square leg.
