Joe Root dives forward to scoop up Sarel Erwee’s nick

Joe Root dives forward at first slip to snaffle a catch that was dying on him, handing England the breakthrough they were desperate for. Sarel Erwee will be gutted though, as he fought hard and got a start only to fall to an innocuous delivery. It was pitched up around the off-stump channel, was there to be driven, but Erwee’s feet froze at the crease as he pushed his bat forward. The edge was found, and Root did well to latch onto it in the cordon. It has been a good start for South Africa, but they’re 18 for 1 effectively now, having wiped out the deficit in a tick over 10 overs.
