James Anderson castles Dean Elgar early on Day 3

Joe Root opened the bowling on Day 3 and was struck for a four by Sarel Erwee, who drove through covers. James Anderson was also driven through covers by Erwee for three runs, but Dean Elgar fell in the fourth over of the day, with a ball that angled in to the batter before it straightened and beat his defences to shatter the stumps. Elgar departed for 11, leaving South Africa at 33/1.

Earlier, England put themselves in a commanding position to square the series. Having bowled out South Africa for 151, England rode on centuries from Ben Stokes and Ben Foakes to post a formidable 415/9 decl.
