Beth Mooney’s sparkling 61 and a suffocating stranglehold with the ball at death, led by Megan Schutt (2-27) and Ash Gardner (3-16), helped Australia complete the trifecta of world titles. They squeezed a narrow nine-run victory over India for the inaugural Commonwealth Games 2022 Gold at Edgbaston on Sunday.
India did well to limit Australia to 161/8 from their 20 overs. A 96-run alliance between Harmanpreet Kaur (65) and Jemimah Rodrigues (33) then set up the chase but Australia struck in successive overs to send back both the set batters and trigger a shambolic collapse that consigned India to yet another runners-up finish.
