South Africa persisted with their three-seamer, two-spinner combination with a sixth-bowling option in Aiden Markram, but have had to make a forced change in the all-rounder department. Andile Phehlukwayo, who sustained a concussion, had been ruled out of the series and replaced by Dwaine Pretorius. With the game shortened to 29 overs a side, four bowlers can bowl a maximum of six overs each and one bowler can bowl five.
Pretorius bowled well in the middle overs, snapping up the key wickets of Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow in an over. While Root played a wild slog at his own peril, the ball rushed through the bat-pad gap and crashed into the middle-stump as Bairstow fell for 28.
