Moment of miscommunication leads to Alex Lees’ downfall

Ben Stokes continued his form with the ball in the post-Lunch session by snuffing out India’s tail quickly but it still left his side with an uphill task of chasing 378 – 19 more than England’s best-ever successful pursuit, in the Leeds Test of 2019 where Stokes was the chief architect. A blazing start from Alex Lees and Zak Crawley – with an opening wicket stand worth 107 runs – mitigated the advantage that India took in at the innings break. However, wickets fell in a cluster shortly thereafter as Alex Lees was run out. The left-hander was watching the ball-watching while Joe Root covered half the distance of the pitch.
