In what was an eventful start to Day 4 in Edgbaston, India dragged their lead to 362 to tighten their grip on the rearranged fifth Test even as England snared four wickets in the first session.
Pujara, who’d already played a delightful backfoot punch, cut at an innocuous short and wide freebie, giving catching practice to Alex Lees at backward point. Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami batted out the last four overs to take India to Lunch at 229 for 7 – with a lead of 362 runs.
Brief Scores: India 229/7 (Cheteshwar Pujara 66, Rishabh Pant 57; Matty Potts 2-50, Stuart Broad 2-58) & 416 lead England 284 (Jonny Bairstow 106, Sam Billings 36; Mohammed Siraj 4-66, Jasprit Bumrah 3-68) by 361 runs
