Tom Latham raises fifty as New Zealand lead touches 70

A brisk half-century from opener Tom Latham helped New Zealand claw their way back in the Headingley Test on Day 3. Latham galloped to 76 off just 99 balls by Tea and had skipper Kane Williamson for company as the pair ensured the honours were won by the visitors in the afternoon session.

It didn’t start in a promising fashion with Will Young succumbing early. After Matty Potts found the outside edge of the opener, Latham whipped the very next delivery for a boundary to help his side wipe out the deficit and go into the lead. It was indeed quite an atypical innings from Latham who looked to be in a positive frame of mind and didn’t hold back his shots.
