A victory in this final clash of the series would will give England plenty of confidence going into the all-important Test match against India next week. India are leading the unfinished series 2-1 and England will have to win that rearranged Test to draw level. Given the importance of that Test match, the hosts rested James Anderson for this clash to give his ankle time to heal. Jamie Overton made his debut as a result and dismissed Devon Conway to bag his maiden Test wicket. New Zealand have recovered thanks to the rock-soild partnership between Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell. Their alliance is now withing touching distance of three figures.
#QuickByte: In a Tests series against 🏴, no pair has faced as many deliveries as Blundell and Mitchell (1101) have in this series (where ball data available).
In fact, they are only the second pair after Gibbs and Smith in 2003 to bat 1000+ balls in a series. #ENGvsNZ pic.twitter.com/tgZl7eNk7u
