Hardik Pandya has been appointed the leader of a 17-member squad announced by the selection committee to take on Ireland in two T20Is later this month. Rahul Tripathi and Sanju Samson will feature in the team from which India’s Test regulars will be absent as they’ll directly fly to England to gear up for the rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston.
Pandya was promoted to vice-captaincy and has served as Rishabh Pant’s deputy in the ongoing series against South Africa after original captain KL Rahul was sidelined due to a groin injury. The 28-year-old recently marshalled Gujarat Titans in their title-winning debut season in the IPL. Experienced campaigner Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been named Pandya’s understudy for the Irish assignment.
