Both England and New Zealand would have been upbeat about their chances when they walked out after Tea, however, it became evident that Jonny Bairstow was out there to kill the chase. He put the New Zealand attack to the sword and narrowly missed out on the fastest century for an English player in Test cricket, ending his carnage at 136 of just 92 balls. He shared a match-winning 179-run partnership with Ben Stokes off just 121 deliveries to put the chase to bed. Stokes took England home with a swift unbeaten knock despite carrying an injury in his knee. His commitment to the cause was admirable as well.

Incredible from Stokes – he is struggling with some injury, still putting 100% and full length dive – The fighter, Stokes. pic.twitter.com/JWgKJnObdu
