Ben Stokes celebrated his elevation to Test captaincy by unleashing carnage against Worcestershire’s bowlers, hitting a County Championship record 17 sixes in what was his first innings in 10 months for Durham. Stokes’ whirlwind 88-ball 161 featured a 34-run heist from a Josh Baker over and took the gloss off centuries from Sean Dickson and David Bedingham. Durham declared at 580 for 6 before Matty Potts took 5 for 36 from his 13 overs to leave the hosts in a tizzy at 139 for 6 by Stumps on Day 2.
