Ben Stokes hammered Worcestershire left-arm spinner Josh Baker for five consecutive sixes at New Road to bring up his ton and then another four to cap off an eye-popping 34-run over from the youngster. By lunch on day two, Stokes had progressed his score to 147 not out off 82 deliveries, with his 15 sixes for the innings just one shy of the County Championship record shared by Andrew Symonds and Graham Napier.
The all-rounder succeeds Joe Root as England skipper and takes over a beleagured squad with just one win in their last 17 Tests.
