Joe Root, who recently stood down as England’s Test captain, has been named as the Leading Cricketer in the World in the 2022 edition of Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack. Root had a stellar 2021, having amassed 1,708 runs in 15 Tests. Despite his prolific run with the bat, England have won just one of their last 17 Tests. Indian duo Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah, England pacer Ollie Robinson, New Zealand batter Devon Conway and South Africa women’s captain Dane van Niekerk were adjudged Wisden’s five Cricketers of the Year.
