The Chinnaswamy pitch in Bengaluru on which India faced Sri Lanka in the second Test has been rated ‘below average’ by the ICC. Javagal Srinath, one among ICC’s Elite Panel of Match Referees, rated it such, and the venue has been penalized with one demerit point. As per the official, there was a significant amount of turn on the pitch from Day 1 itself, and it triggered India’s slide to 148 for 6. It took Shreyas Iyer’s masterful approach against spin to push India to 252 – an innings in which 8 of the 10 wickets fell to the spinners.
