Heather Knight’s gritty century in the Ashes Test in Canberra ranks among the three best knocks in women’s cricket, according to her team-mate Katherine Brunt. By the close of the second day, Knight’s unbeaten 127 had rescued England from the prospect of the follow-on, after they had at one stage teetered to 169/8 in reply to Australia’s 337/9 declared. But with Sophie Ecclestone providing able support with an unbeaten 27, England reduced the arrears to 102 and kept their hopes of a comeback alive.
