Cricbuzz reported that Jay Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, has revealed a plan for a two-phase staging of the Ranji Trophy, India’s domestic red-ball tournament, in 2022. The competition was postponed due to the ongoing third wave of the Coronavirus pandemic, but is likely to have its league stage competed before the start of the IPL with knockouts expectedly to be played in June. The tournament was not held in the 2020-21 season with the first wave of the pandemic rocking the country.
