England’s experienced campaigners Joe Root and Ben Stokes have stitched a fifty partnership after the rain break to keep Australia at bay and bolster their chances of playing out a draw on the final day of the Ashes Test in Sydney. Stokes has been his freewheeling self, driving nicely down the ground while taking on the short stuff from Pat Cummins. Root has been more sedate in his approach, having dawdled to 23 off 71 balls as England look to avoid a whitewash by blunting the remaining 48 overs.
