England had their hopes of a fightback pinned on the in-form pair of Dawid Malan and Joe Root, and the duo hasn’t disappointed as the partnership grows to 100. Malan was edgy in the forties, but has found some impeccably timed boundaries in between. The southpaw got to his 6th Test fifty, and second on the trot in the Ashes. Root, meanwhile, has just crossed fifty as well to calm the nerves in the England dressing room and kindle the ambitions of a spirited rearguard.
