Marnus Labuschagne has industriously worked his way to a maiden Ashes hundred with a thick edge taking him to three figures after he resumed batting on his overnight score of 96. He shared a 172-run partnership with David Warner on the opening day, a rock-solid alliance that put Australia in the driving seat as they won the toss and opted to bat first in Adelaide. Labuschagne and Steve Smith have a voracious appetite for runs, and it isn’t good news for England with both of them looking fluent in the middle.
