Alex Carey is set to make his Test debut in the opening Ashes Test in Brisbane, with the 30-year-old being named by Cricket Australia as the wicketkeeper for the game at the Gabba. Carey, who has featured in five matches for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield this season, has managed only 153 runs in eight innings, averaging 21.85, with a highest of 66 not out. But he managed to regain form recently, scoring a 101 against Queensland in the One-Day Cup match at the end of last month.
