New Zealand need 280 more to win on the final day of the Kanpur Test with nine wickets in hand. They have the giant task of pursuing a substantial target on a wearing pitch against the spin trio which seems indomitable on home soil. The more realistic option is to survive the day and eke out a draw. New Zealand haven’t won a Test in India for over three decades now. Going into the last day of the first Test, it doesn’t seem as if they can replicate the historic feat at the Wankhede Stadium in 1988-89. However, cricket is a game of glorious uncertainties.
