Indian bowlers have been immaculate throughout the morning, especially R Ashwin who broke the rock-solid opening stand and was unlucky not to get Tom Latham LBW as the hosts decided against a review. Runs came at a premium and it suited India who were waiting for the surface to gradually open up for their spinners. It was Umesh Yadav who landed a killer punch at the stroke of the lunch interval, getting the new ball to jag in from a length and trap Kane Williamson plumb in front. New Zealand are 197/2 and negotiating the mint-conditioned cherry would be their aim on the other side of the meal break.
