Debutant Shreyas Iyer got off the mark with a nervy, miscued loft that fell beyond mid-off, but has looked to score all along and raised a fifty that was much-needed given the situation India found themselves in. Iyer showed great cricketing acumen and went after New Zealand’s fifth bowling option, Rachin Ravindra, to progress into the 40s. Iyer’s half-century would put pressure on the under-fire Ajinkya Rahane, who has been blowing more cold than hot for a long while now.
