Shreyas Iyer looked in fine fettle in the nets ahead of his Test debut against New Zealand in the first Test in Kanpur. The stylish right-hander will become India’s 303rd men’s Test cricketer as stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane confirmed that Iyer will be making his red-ball debut. He will be filling in for KL Rahul, who was ruled out with a muscle strain in the thigh. Rahane said India hadn’t yet taken a call if Iyer would be the only debutant or if they might field an extra batter given India are without Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant.
